St George the Martyr

Charity

The St George the Martyr Charity is a small, older persons' charity based in the north of the Borough of Southwark. The charity was originally founded in 1584 through the will of one Stephen Skydmore, who left money to the church of St George the Martyr to help 'the poor of the parish'. Other rich merchants added to the funds over the following 400 years, and the charity is entirely funded by the income from this endowment.

Our Rector sits ex-officio on the Board of Trustees. To find out more about the charity, and to find out if you are eligible for help, see the website
