Weddings
Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual - just as you would want it to be. Churches are special and unique places to get married in - the prayers, promises and the whole service of celebration become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond.
We are delighted to receive enquiries about getting married at St George the Martyr. Like any Anglican parish church, we are required to observe certain legal rules when it comes to marriages and we are happy to discuss these with you.
If you would like to get married at St Georges, then you
Need to live in the parish - Check which parish you live in by visiting the website www.achurchnearyou.com.
Or if you live in another parish, you will need to attend St George’s for at least 6 months before you can get married here,
Or need to have a connection to the parish (either have been baptized here, or have a parent or grandparent who belonged here).
You can get married at any time of the day and on most days of the week. Please note that weddings do not take place during Lent (from Ash Wednesday to Easter). This is a solemn time of year as we prepare to commemorate the death of Jesus and celebrate his resurrection.
Civil Partnerships and Same Sex Weddings
St George the Martyr is an inclusive community where LGBTQIA people are welcomed and affirmed. Our Rector would be delighted to help you to prepare prayerfully for your Civil Partnership or Wedding.
We are delighted that we are now able to offer services of blessing for LGBTQIA couples who have entered into a civil partnership or marriage, and welcome all enquiries to hold a celebration of your love here at St George’s.
Regretably the Church of England is yet to permit the solemnisation of same-sex marriages. This is a source of sadness for us and something we are committed to see change.
To be clear, same-sex couples are very welcome at St George’s, and we shall endeavour to support you in your relationship through prayer and fellowship.
